Outerbanks - the departure

It was hard to believe the day had finally come.  We had planned for so long that it hardly seemed possible that we would ever get to start our vacation to Cape Lookout National Seashore.  On Saturday, June 22, 2013, we began our adventure at 3am! It was a 10 hour drive to the Outerbanks and we wanted to arrive in time to enjoy an evening on the coast.  Our kids were troopers when we woke them.  Ready to go they barely slept at all on the drive out there.  We kept them busy with random prize times for good behavior and of course their beloved electronics.

We planned to stay at a hotel the night before so we could finish our grocery shopping and catch the early morning ferry out to the island.  We enjoyed a great evening in the fishing town of Moorhead.  As many of you know, Brayden's life ambition is to be a fisherman so this was just amazing for him despite the sleep deprivation.   Here he is watching them unload their day's catch.

We also enjoyed a seafood dinner at a restaurant on the water. Teagan had her first taste of fried shrimp and was instantly in love!

The restaurant had a peer where the kids could feed the seagulls. They loved how eager these birds were to eat their food!

We ended our first day with lots of memories and an early bed time to prepare for the next day's departure.
Somebody didn't quite make it to the hotel!
